My Two Cents on the Grammys

Hello World,

The Grammys are a little less than two months away, but the list of nominations has come out recently, and here at rccozy we are hoping the best artists get credited for their work and that this year’s Grammys aren’t disappointing like they have been in the past (cough* cough*), with “1989” beating out “To pimp a butterfly” (cough* cough*).  But a lot of good music and, well, not so good music has been made this last year and it is always interesting to see what music and artists take those awards. I’d like to focus here on the rap side of the Grammys since that is the music I listen to the most.

Starting off, I really hope “Despacito” does not win any awards because personally I never liked that song so I’m going to be biased about that lol. Obviously my opinion, so if some of you guys don’t agree that is fine, and if some do, also fine!…let me know. Back into it I go so… As for album of the year, I think Jay-z made some very good music in his album and even though I do like Kendrick more, I think Jay put out the strongest project this year. The noms went to Lorde, Childish Gambino, Bruno Mars, Jay-Z and Kendrick Lamar who all had some great projects released this year, but I’m favouring Jay-Z’s 4:44 album to take it home.

All these awards would have been a little different if Drake had submitted “More Life” but he didn’t, so of course that changes the scale of things. As for song of the year, I think Logic’s “1-800-273-8255” feat. Alessia Cara & Khalid is who I’m betting on to win song of the year, as Logic does a good job in rapping about depression, bullying, and all the other pain,… but I thought Lil Uzi Vert’s XO Tour Life should have been nominated. I think that was the track of this last year. Uzi is nominated for best new artist and even though he isn’t new I think he will take that prize home with him. XO Tour Life changed the genre and the culture. It has become a classic and just such a huge tune to listen to. As for rap album of the year… I thought the A$AP MOB put out a huge album this year and also thought NAV made some unbelievably good music in his Perfect Timing album. It sucks to see those projects not  be recognized, but that is just the way the cookie crumbles. “Bodak Yellow” is more lyrical and better than “Feels so Good” or “Call Me” but that is the way the music business works. I also hope “Bodak Yellow” doesn’t win any awards… nothing against female artists or female rap artists… I just don’t like Cardi B’s music or the way she presents herself as a person. Even though her joint with G-Eazy and A$AP Rocky is tight, I’m still not impressed. I am hoping best rap song goes to “HUMBLE” by Kendrick Lamar; hope he will take it, but J Cole’s “False Prophets” and “Everyone Dies” was much better in my opinion, but he also was not nominated. With so much good music released it is always hard to nom everyone, which I understand. So those are my thoughts and hopes. If any of you guys want to discuss or share your ideas, feel free to leave a comment or email me! Have a good one and remember, STAY COZY
